Residents spotting a vintage yellow bus parked on the streets of Portland may find themselves hopping on board for a lesson on salvage and period-renovation or learning a thing or two about notable period architectural styles rather than sending their kids off to school.
Portland-based historic and period design-build firm Arciform's classic 1979 school bus will serve as an entertaining mobile classroom focused on educating homeowners on the importance of sustainability, the creative use of salvage, the history of homes and architects from around the Greater Portland area, as well as continuing the advocacy of the respectful remodel of period and vintage homes. The bus is the centerpiece of Arciform's "Get Home Schooled" initiative that will allow Portland residents to get first-hand advice, insight, and professional expertise from both Arciform's seasoned team of craftsmen and designers and a team of community, non-profit, and professional partners.
Arciform co-owner and Get Home Schooled creator, Anne De Wolf, is excited to meld her passion for design and salvage with her admiration of American school buses: "Get Home Schooled embodies the concept of outreach and education that I believe is at the heart of the design and remodeling world."
The bus itself showcases the idea of "creative reuse," giving a vintage school bus new life parked at home tours, street fairs, and trade shows all around the Portland area.
So step on board, back in time, and let Arciform take the WORK out of HOME work!
