Holiday Gift Guide 2020: PART 1
We’ve just flipped our calendars from November to December! If you haven’t already started, it’s time to make or buy holiday gifts for those special people in your life, and we have some ideas for you.

For the Beer Lover:
Proper Pint Taproom While they’re currently open for pickup only, they offer gift cards and growlers of beer, cider and wine. They have a great selection of 28 taps as well as a unique selection of bottles and cans. You can even order ahead on their website and they’ll have your order ready for you in a jiff. For Pampering Pets:
Good Dog PDX A local, family owned pet shop that focuses on fun, well-researched products for your dogs and cats. They carry everything from food, toys and treats to beds, apparel, and grooming products. They are opening an indoor dog park soon that you can purchase a subscription to! Buckman neighborhood.
For your Next Door Neighbor or Faraway Friends:
Anne and I like to give kites as baby shower gifts, and we get them at Elmer’s Flag and Banner, a Portland shop established in 1963. The staff are knowledgeable and super friendly and many of the items are made right here in town. We bought our city of Portland flag there. Surprise your nicest neighbor or faraway friends with a flag, windsock, kite or weathervane from Elmer’s. Irvington neighborhood.
When trying to “buy local”, remember that even franchise shops are owned and operated by local people. Buying specialty items like at Batteries Plus Bulbs helps support the local economy and, interestingly enough, they have a great selection of games that don’t require batteries (!) for the holidays. Something Sparkly, with History:
Gem Set Love Richard always seeks Paula’s advice to find me something special at this NW Portland gem shop. She has vintage jewelry and pieces made with vintage stones, and Paula and her team are members of the American Society of Jewelry Historians! They also have a metalsmith in-house who does hand engraving and is trained in Vintage and Antique Repairs and Restoration. Alphabet District.
Elephants Delicatessen – Elephants has something for everyone when it comes to local treats. You can order your loved one a gift box, delicious catered meal, box of baked goodies or a special bottle of wine. They have 8 locations in the area, are fun and involved in the community. Something Practical & Cool that gets Better with Age:
Will Leather Goods – Will carries very cool leather goods, designed in Oregon. His belts, wallets, backpacks and tote style bags are all beautifully made and would be beautiful and useful gifts for a special someone. Alphabet District in Portland, and the Boxcar in Eugene.
For your Favorite Crafty Friend:
Etsy –I have been cross stitching and am starting macramé and crocheting. I love how creative people can make their products easily accessible to the world.
