WES BOYD

WHAT INSPIRES YOU MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

I am inspired by the other craftspeople I get to meet in my daily life and the builders of the past when I am lucky enough to add to their creations. The thought of building something that will outlive me and possibly serve other generations is a great feeling.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED FOR ARCIFORM?

Since March 2020.

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE THIS JOB?

I have been an illustrator, a graphic designer, product developer, magazine art director, carpenter, and have run my own remodeling business.

WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING/EDUCATION DO YOU HAVE?

There have been a lot of educational experiences for me. I have a certificate of graphic communications, a certificate in permaculture design. I studied distilled spirits production in Kentucky and Colorado. I served six years in the Army National Guard infantry. I really learned a tremendous amount from my father who was a carpenter and my grandfather who was a model maker at Polaroid. Those two men could make anything. I try to learn something new every day if I can. That especially includes all the unique qualities of those I work with.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?

The Boston area of Massachusetts.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?

I love camping with my family and fine tuning our 1978 contemporary split-level home. When I can make the time, I also enjoy screen printing and creative writing.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?

Home is where the heart is, and the ability to create the best possible spaces for people to live well is my absolute favorite.

WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE PORTLAND NEIGHBORHOOD?

Eleven years later I am still discovering cool nuggets in every neighborhood, but the mixture of both modern and classic homes in the Alameda area is amazing.
