JAMIE WHITTAKER

With us since 2006, Jamie grew up in Rochester, NY. His family moved there so his dad could work for Eastman Kodak designing satellite lenses and cameras for the space program. Although Jamie has over 30 years of experience as a builder and woodworker, he was also a chef for 13 years, and during college, a writer and a musician. His unique background has made him the perfect lead carpenter for our company, where he’s on site everyday, keeping the project going.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME?

I work on my old house and all the typical Oregon outdoor stuff. I especially like tide pooling at the coast or a hike through the Gorge. I’m also busy right now with getting my daughters into college.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

Coffee and doughnuts? Ha!  I love working with my hands—taking a a pile of raw material and turning it into something beautiful and unique. I get a big sense of satisfaction from projects that involve a lot of organization and troubleshooting, and I’m inspired by the work we get to do on Oregon’s historic and significant buildings all over the state.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD?

Right now I’m working in Alameda which is a great neighborhood. After work you’ll often find me driving slowly down NE Thompson or Tillamook on my way home, checking out all the great old houses.
