JOE HOFFMAN

Joe Hoffman is one of our first project managers starting with ARCIFORM in 2001. He took a 10-year hiatus to be a stay-at-home dad, returning to his ARCIFORM family in 2013. Having worked professionally on older homes and vintage sailboats for more than 30 years, we’re delighted to have his incredible expertise back on board to our ship. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Joe has a special perspective on historical structures.

WHAT’S THE ARCHITECTURE  LIKE IN MICHIGAN?

The architecture in Michigan Is steeped with some of the finest examples of Art-Deco and Postmodern architecture in the U.S. Detroit’s architecture is recognized with the National Trust for Historic Preservation listing many of Detroit’s skyscrapers and buildings as some of America’s most endangered landmarks. Detroit also has one of the largest surviving collections of late-nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century brick, stone and iron buildings in the U.S.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME?

I enjoy racing a 30’ sailboat and spending time with my family. Being a stay-at-home dad when my kids were young was the most difficult thing and the most rewarding thing I have ever done. The relationship I have with my kids now makes it worth every bit of the struggle and effort.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR JOB?

I enjoy working through the details and helping the designers and clients make smart and lasting decisions. Helping to develop projects from the ground-up — that’s the fun stuff for me.
