Coming to us from the east coast — primarily Grand Rapids, Michigan, Minnesota and the Chicago area — Joe McAlester has been a project manager on the build team since 2014. He describes his position as taking information and input from several entities and pulling it together to give all parties the best chance at a successful project.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME?
I like to fly fish for steelhead, try to keep up with my young kids, play hockey or tennis and build whatever inspires me at the moment. I’ve built several pieces of furniture and a few years ago I built a small, two-story timber frame outbuilding at my prior residence. I’d like to build a slightly larger timber frame project at my new residence and then someday, if things work out, a small getaway cabin or an ADU.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I’m inspired by the design-based projects, the buildings we work on, and the craftspeople who take our ideas from concept to finished product. I enjoy the transformative and restorative aspects of remodeling, taking a space and making it into something better for our clients.
